Last Second Tally Sends Lions Past Sharks, 14-13

BOSTON, Mass. – Simmons University's Lacrosse opened up the 2026 season on the road in a 14-13 loss against the Emerson College Lions.

How It Happened
  • Emily Horn and Bridget McNamara each tossed in a pair of goals in the opening frame to put the Sharks on top, 4-2, at the 9:18 mark. Emerson responded with a 5-1 run to close out the frame on top, 7-5.
  • The rookie duo of Horn and McNamara struck again late in the second, combining to tie the game at 7-7 with just over four minutes remaining in the half. The teams traded goals down the stretch, heading into halftime deadlocked at 8-8.
  • The Sharks came out firing in the third, thanks to another McNamara goal as well as a tally from Lily Haynes (10-8) with 11:34 on the board. Keeping pace was Emerson, however, who knocked two goals in to once again lock up the score going into the final frame (10-10).
  • Emerson found the back of the net quickly in the fourth to hold the 12-10 edge, but the Sharks roared right back to take the 13-12 advantage with 3:56 left in regulation.  The Lions tied the game at 13-all before securing the wining goal with just 10 seconds on the clock (14-13).
Beyond The Box Score
  • Bridget McNamara tallied five goals, the most by a Shark in a season opener since Abby Stoller scored six in 2022. McNamara's five goals marked the highest goal total by a rookie in her collegiate debut in program history.
  • First year, Emily Horn recorded four goals in her first collegiate contest.
  • Caitie Theissen scooped up a career-high five ground balls and three caused turnovers.
  • The Sharks look ahead to their home-opener on Saturday, February 21 against Wellesley College at 12 p.m.
