Sharks Take Two From Rams

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons University Softball played an afternoon non-conference double-header against nearby Suffolk University on Daly Field. The Sharks scored first and continued to hold the upper hand en route to the 5-1 and 7-5 win.

Game One
  • Piper Kinney kept the Rams hitless through the first four innings leading way to the Sharks striking first in the home half of the fourth. With two on and two out, Emma Soule hit a deep fly ball to straight away center where the fielder dropped the ball to aid it over the fence to give the Sharks the 3-0 lead.
  • Suffolk split the difference in the following inning with a pair of singles.
  • E. Soule caused damage once again as the senior laced a two-RBI double down the left field line to widen the gap to 5-1.
  • Kinney kept it going in the circle, surrendering just one more hit in the final two innings for the complete game win.
Game Two
  • Trinity Payne knocked one through the right side to plate Nevaeh Eth to make it 1-0 after the second inning.
  • The Rams put the ball in play to create a little bit of havoc to flip the script and lead, 2-1.
  • With two outs and two runners on, Isabel McLam singled up the middle to send Jocelyn Harms and Emery Kreidel-Reimer home to regain the narrow lead, 3-2.
  • Starting pitcher Trinity Payne continued to keep the Rams off balance at the plate as the Sharks began to stretch their lead. In the sixth, E. Soule hit another double to bring the score to 6-2 before Abigail Carvalho made it 7-2.
  • Suffolk attempted to orchestrate a rally in the seventh, but Payne re-entered the game to silence the bats and secure the win.
