Big Third Quarter Lifts Pilgrims Past Sharks

HENNIKER, N.H. – Simmons University Field Hockey traveled north to take on the New England College Pilgrims on Saturday afternoon. After a scoreless first half, NEC broke the game open in the third quarter and secured a 3-0 victory.

How It Happened

  • The Pilgrims and Sharks traded offensive possessions throughout the opening quarter. NEC opened the game with a penalty corner followed by three shots. Simmons responded with a penalty corner of its own, two shots, another corner, and two more attempts on goal. Despite the action at both ends, the scoreboard remained scoreless heading into the second quarter.
  • Simmons put on a defensive clinic once again in the second. Haley Bright came up with several saves, while Piper Rickman and Olivia Minotti each recorded defensive saves to keep the game tied 0-0 at halftime.
  • NEC broke through with a pair of goals in the third quarter. The Sharks looked to respond, but the Pilgrims added another marker to take a 3-0 lead into the final 15 minutes.
  • The Sharks made seven saves in the fourth quarter, but the Pilgrims held on for the shutout victory.

Beyond the Box Score

  • Piper Rickman now has six defensive saves on the season.
  • The Sharks return home on Wednesday, Sept. 22, to host Saint Joseph's College of Maine at 6:30 p.m. at Daly Field.
