Sharks Soar Past Blue Jays In Straight Sets

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Simmons University volleyball team traveled to Connecticut on Saturday afternoon and earned a straight-set Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory over the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.), defeating the Blue Jays 25-14, 25-21, 25-12.

How It Happened

  • Trailing 3-0 to begin the match, the Sharks quickly responded with a 5-0 run to take a 5-3 lead behind kills from four different players. Back-to-back kills from Mia LeBrun and Madeline Flanagan later stretched the advantage to 12-6, and Simmons cruised to a 25-14 opening-set victory.
  • The second set featured a tighter battle, with the teams tied at 19-19 late in the frame. The Sharks capitalized on several Blue Jay miscues down the stretch to secure a 25-21 win and a 2-0 match lead.
  • Simmons took control early in the third set and never looked back. Holding a 14-8 advantage, the Sharks rattled off five consecutive points to extend the lead to 19-8 before closing out the match with a decisive 25-12 victory.

Beyond The Box Score

  • Hannah Pridgeon posted her third consecutive match with double-digit kills.
  • The Sharks return home on Tuesday, Sept. 21, to host Regis College at 7 p.m. for Pride Night.
