BRISTOL, R.I. – Simmons University Tennis crossed state lines this afternoon to take on Roger Williams University Hawks where the home team came out on top, 6-1.
How It Happened
- Roger Williams secured the doubles point with a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles before adding a pair of 6-4 victories on the top two courts.
- In singles play, Masha Shutts and Emilie Lapointe each jumped out to 3-0 leads and claimed their opening sets at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, respectively. The Hawks carried their momentum from doubles into singles however, clinching the match with a victory on the No. 6 court.
- Lapointe provided the Sharks' lone point of the afternoon, battling to a 6-2, 4-6, 10-7 win at No. 2 singles. Rounding out the afternoon, Shutts nearly added a second point for Simmons but was edged in a tightly contested match, falling 6-1, 5-7, 8-10 at the top spot.
Simmons returns to the road tomorrow, traveling to Connecticut to take on the University of Saint Joseph Blue Jays.
