Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Monks Top Sharks At Daly

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons University Field Hockey hosted Saint Joseph's College of Maine (SJC) tonight under the lights at Daly Field. The Monks jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead and went on to defeat the Sharks, 3-1.

How It Happened
  • The Monks struck early, opening the scoring in the first quarter before adding a second goal five minutes later to take a 2-0 lead into the second.
  • Simmons recorded the first shot of the second quarter, but the Monks' keeper turned it aside. SJC then raced down the field and widened the gap to 3-0 in the 23rd minute. After that score, the Sharks applied pressure and outshot the Monks 6-0 for the remainder of the half.
  • SJC registered its highest shot total of the game in the third quarter, but the Sharks did not allow another goal as Jamila Mohamed made seven saves and Olivia Minotti recorded a defensive save to keep the Monks within reach. With just under six minutes remaining in the quarter, Nora Desrosiers sent a cross into the circle that found Penelope Long, who tapped it into the back of the net to put Simmons on the board at 3-1.
  • Despite holding a 3-0 advantage in shots during the fourth quarter, the score remained unchanged until the final horn.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Penelope Long scored her first goal of the season, while Nora Desrosiers recorded her first assist.
  • The Sharks hit the road on Saturday, September 26 to face the Regis College Pride.
