Simmons Breaks Through With Win Over UMass Boston

BRIGHTON, Mass. – On a rainy night under the lights at Daly Field, Simmons University Field Hockey picked up its first victory of the season in dominant fashion, defeating visiting UMass Boston, 7-0.

How It Happened
  • The Sharks came out firing in the opening quarter, generating several early chances before Lilly Taglieri found Nora Desrosiers for the game's first goal. Just two minutes later, Penelope Long finished a feed from Katy Paveglio to double the lead. Simmons wasn't done there as first-year Madyson Reed scored her first collegiate goal off an assist from Taglieri to make it 3-0 heading into the second.
  • UMass Boston managed a pair of shots in the second quarter, but Jamila Mohamed turned both away to preserve the shutout. Late in the period, Ava Kahl found the back of the net off a pass from Desrosiers as the Sharks took a 4-0 lead into halftime.
  • Long struck again early in the third quarter, chipping in a pass from Clip Cook-Sharpe just four minutes into the frame. Taglieri then converted a penalty stroke in the 43rd minute to extend the lead to 6-0.
  • Simmons added one more in the fourth as Desrosiers finished a feed from Alex Wemple to cap off the 7-0 victory.
