Simmons University

FRANKLIN, Mass. – Simmons University Soccer returned to the pitch today following a week-long layoff, battling Dean College to a 1-1 draw on the road this afternoon.

How It Happened

• Simmons controlled much of the play in the opening half, out-shooting Dean 7-2 through the first 45 minutes.
• Despite controlling much of the play, the Sharks found themselves trailing late in the first half when Dean capitalized on a fortunate bounce. The loose ball settled to a Bulldog attacker, who sent a ball from distance that carried into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead.
• Simmons continued to press for the equalizer after the break. In the 70th minute, Eleni Marques da Costa nearly brought the Sharks level, rattling a shot off the crossbar.
• The breakthrough finally came in the 76th minute. Ella Askren collected the ball near midfield, cut inside past a defender and drove toward the center of the field before unleashing a left-footed strike from nearly 30 yards out that found the back of the net to even the score at 1-1.
• The Sharks nearly found a winner in the closing minutes. With less than nine minutes remaining, Grace Nostrant fired a shot that was just inches from the upper 90, narrowly missing as Simmons settled for a 1-1 draw.

Beyond The Box Score

• Ella Askren netted her second goal of the season with the second-half equalizer.
• The Sharks continue their brief road stint on Saturday, October 3, when they travel to New Hampshire to take on New England College.
