Soccer and Colby-Sawyer Draw in Saturday Afternoon Thriller

BRIGHTON, MASS. –  The Sharks stave off a late Chargers push to tally another draw in Great Northeast Athletic Conference play Saturday Afternoon at Daly Field.

The Sharks came into this match today riding high off a 5-2 victory over New England College in their last GNAC match, and that energy carried over into the matinee match today. Simmons opened the scoring with Graduate Senior Cerys Balmer finding the bottom corner of the net off an assist by sophomore Grace Nostrant. That allowed the Sharks to hold a 1-0 advantage as the teams headed into the locker room at the half.

The second half featured much of the same, as each team had some stellar chances, including a shot from junior Kayla Noonan off a beautiful feed from Balmer, but was saved by the Chargers goalkeeper. Just a few minutes later, Colby-Sawyer was able to find the back of the net, tying this one up.

First year goalkeeper Mikaela Marie Javar had a couple crucial saves to keep this one tied down the stretch, and that is how this one remained when the buzzer sounded, as the Sharks make it their fourth straight match without recording a loss.

Highlights
  • Graduate senior Cerys Balmer netted yet another goal today, her eighth on the season.
  • Sophomore Grace Nostrant tallied an assist today.
  • First year forward Peyton Renzi recorded two shots on goal.
