Volleyball Snaps a Two-Game Skid Blanking Colby-Sawyer, 3-0

BOSTON – Simmons volleyball (7-10, 5-1 GNAC) returned to Great Northeast Athletic Confernce (GNAC) action and their winning ways with a three-set, 3-0, win over Colby-Sawyer College (14-7, 4-4 GNAC) on Tuesday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1: Simmons 25, Colby-Sawyer 12
The Sharks offense came out firing. Sophomore Hannah Pridgeon was a flawless from the floor tallying four kills on 12 attempts for an outstanding .333 attack percentage. Graduate senior Zoë Chatterton followed up with three kills on six attempts, while fellow graduate senior April Beatty paced the offense with four assists.
 
SET 2: Simmons 25, Colby-Sawyer 20
With momentum on the side of Simmons, Colby-Sawyer responded making the second set a barn-burner early. After the Chargers took a small, 11-10, lead, senior Meghan Doxsee and April Beatty capped off a 4-1 run to take a 15-12 lead and force the Chargers to call their first timeout.
 
But it did little to halt the Sharks offense. They continued to build on their momentum and took four-point, 21-17, lead late on a block assist from Chatterton and junior Kate Petrosso and they never looked back.
 
SET 3: Simmons 25, Colby-Sawyer 20
The Sharks looked to put the final nail in the coffin, grabbing the 15-11 lead midway through the third set. But the Chargers were not going away a quietly and began to chip away at the deficit. Taking advantage of a few Shark mistakes they battle back to knot up the set a 18 and force Head Coach Pat Helmas to call his first time out.
 
Coming out of the time out, the Sharks were rejuvenated. After a service error by the Chargers gave Simmons back the lead, there was no look back as they cruised to take the third set, 25-20, with a pair of kills by Pridgeon in the last five points.
 
SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS
  • Sophomore Hannah Pridgeon notched her seventh double-double of the season, tallying 10 kills and 10 digs.
  • Graduate senior Zoë Chatterton led the way 12 kills on 27 attempts and just five errors.
  • Graduate senior April Beatty and sophomore Alicia Beatty combined to pace the Sharks offense with 24 assists – 13 and 11 respectively. 
UP NEXT
Simmons returns to the court on Saturday, October 19 when they host Regis College (11 a.m.) and Mitchell College (3 p.m.) for a tri-match.
