NEWTON, Mass. – Simmons soccer (2-8-3, 2-7-3 GNAC) edged out by Lasell University (7-4-3, 6-3-3 GNAC), 4-1, in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Saturday afternoon.
The Lasers jumped on the board early, scoring in the 19
th minute. It remained a one-goal contest into until Lasell extended its lead with four minutes to play in the first half. But just before time expired in the half, the Sharks broke up the shutout.
Sophomore
Lauren Krupnikoff connected with senior Stephanie Mendoza on a corner kick to cut the deficit in half going into the break.
When the teams return to the field at the start of the second half, the Lasers added to their lead scoring in the 56
th minute. They added an insurance goal 12 minutes later to give them the 4-1 cushion and never looked back.
SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS
- Sophomore Lauren Krupnikoff registered her fifth assist of the season.
- Senior Steph Mendoza recorded her first goal of the season and first of her career in the 44th minute.
