BRIGHTON, Mass. - Simmons field hockey (15-3, 7-2 GNAC) blanked the Amcats of Anna Maria (1-14, 1-10 GNAC) in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tilt Saturday afternoon at Daly Field.
Â
The Sharks came out with energy early on as they sent a barrage of shots at the Amcats goalkeeper, with a few good chances from senior forward Anna Tedeschi, but they could not open the scoring in the first period. The Sharks maintained possession and sent a flurry of shots towards the Amcats net, when in the middle of the second Tedeschi was able to bury a shot off a deflection to put Simmons in front, and that was the only score of the first half.
Â
The Sharks wasted no time in the second half as just 45 seconds in, senior captain Sydney Gonyea found the back of the net off of a feed from senior midfielder Hannah Groves, pushing the lead to 2-0. That was just the beginning for Simmons as they were beginning to break this game wide open.
Â
The relentless attack continued as Simmons added two more goals in the period from Gonyea and senior midfielder Emilia Elko. Sophomore Lilly Taglieri tacked on another goal on a penalty stroke in the fourth period to put a cap on the Sharks dominant performance for their 15th regular season win, 5-0.
