Volleyball Hands Rival Emmanuel First Conference Loss of the Season

BOSTON – Simmons volleyball (6-8, 4-0 GNAC) stays perfect in Great Northeast Athletics Conference action, stifling rival Emmanuel College (10-3, 4-1 GNAC) on Friday evening.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1: Simmons 25, Emmanuel 19
The Sharks overcame an early six-point deficit after the Saints opened the game with a boost of energy. But momentum began to swing over to the Simmons bench, inching their way back they tied the set at 13. Things really began to heat up late in the set when sophomore Hannah Pridgeon registered three kills in an 8-0 run to close out the first set, 25-19.
 
SET 2: Simmons 25, Emmanuel 19
Momentum continued to favor the Sharks at the start of the second set, jumping out to an 8-3 lead forcing the Saints to call their first timeout. While Emmanuel chipped away at the lead, they were unable to pull closer than two points.
 
Graduate senior Zoë Chatterton was flawless from the floor, leading the offense with six kills on 12 attempts, while Pridgeon followed up with four kills.
 
SET 3: Simmons 25, Emmanuel 15
The third set was a tighter contest with the Saints coming out strong early. But midway through the set, Pridgeon ignited with a 6-0 run – which included pair aces – to take a 15-8 lead and the Sharks never looked back.
 
Pridgeon was nearly perfect from the floor, tallying four kills on five attempts as she led a Shark offense that hit .400 in the final set. Sophomore Alicia Beatty paced the offense with five assists and notching three digs.
 
SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS
  • Sophomore outside hitter Hannah Pridgeon posted a .333 attack percentage with 13 kills on 24 attempts and just five errors, while notching her sixth double-double of the season with 10 digs.
  • Graduate senior Zoë Chatterton hit .312 with 13 kills on 32 attempts and just three errors.
  • Sophomore Alicia Beatty and graduate senior April Beatty combined to pace the offense with 36 assists.

Simmons returns to the court on Wednesday, October 9 when they travel to Newton, Massachusetts to face Lasell University  at 7 p.m.
