Volleyball Splits Saturday Afternoon's Tri-match Against Wentworth & Western Connecticut State

BOSTON – Simmons volleyball (2-6) split Saturday afternoon's tri-match with Wentworth Institute of Technology and Western Connecticut State University. The Sharks fell to the Leopards in the first match of the day, but earned the comeback, 3-2, win against Western Connecticut in their second match.
 
MATCH 1: Wentworth 3, Simmons 0
The Sharks dropped their first match of the day in three sets to host Wentworth in three sets (25-18, 25-10, 25-21). Sophomore Hannah Pridgeon continued to be solid from the floor posting a .294 attack percentage with six kills on 17 attempts and just one miscue. Graduate senior Zoë Chatterton lead the offense with seven kills, while fellow graduate senior April Beatty paced the offense with 13 assists.
 
MATCH 2: Simmons 3, Western Connecticut State University 2
In their second match of the day, Simmons grabbed a quick 1-0 match advantage, but quickly dropped the next two to the Wolves. Despite being down a set, the Sharks managed to tied up the match and force and fifth and deciding game following a convincing 25-18 win in the fourth set.
 
With momentum surely on their side, Simmons was able to edge out Western Connective, 15-13, in the fifth set to claim the match. Pridgeon led the way once against, eclipsing her previous career single-game best, tallying 20 kills against the Wolves, while Chatterton followed up with 19.
 
SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS
  • Sophomore Alicia Beatty came two kills shy of a double-double with 10 digs and eight kills in the first match of the day against Wentworth.
  • Sophomore Hannah Pridgeon registered a career single-game best 20 kills in a five-set win against Western Connecticut. She finished the day with a total of 37 kills against the Wolves and Leopards.
  • Graduate senior Zoë Chatterton posted 26 kills on the day.
