Field Hockey Blanks Clark University, 2-0, on the Road

WORCESTER, Mass. – Breaking from conference play, Simmons field hockey (6-1) handed Clark University (4-2) its second loss of the season following a 2-0 win on a rare Friday night game.

The Sharks and Cougars battled each to a scoreless first period. Making her second start of the season, first-year goalie Jamila Mohamed made back-to-back crucial saves to keep Clark off the scoreboard early in the contest.

Five minutes into the second period, the Sharks finally broke the tied contest. First-year Hailey Brisson connected with senior Sydney Gonyea for her eighth goal of the season. Two minutes later fellow senior Anna Tedeschi kept pace with her classmate knocking in a pass from junior Zoe Schmaling for her conference-leading ninth goal of the season.

The Sharks weather a late fourth quarter attack by the Cougars. In the final stanza, Clark challenged the Shark defense and its first-year goalie with four penalty corner opportunities, but Mohamed was up to the challenge, fending off a pair of shots on-goal.

Registering seven saves on the evening, Mohamed picked up her first win of her collegiate career along with her first shutout.
