Blue Jays Escape Sharks' Strong Second Half

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Simmons Univeristy Sharks crossed state lines to square off against the Blue Jays of the University of Saint Joseph's (USJ) in conference play. The home team scored early and was able to come out with the narrow 3-2 win.

How It Happened
  • Midway through the first half, the Blue Jays scored a pair of goals within a three minute span to take a quick, 2-0 lead. Simmons ripped off a couple of shots late but the scored remained 2-0 in favor of USJ at the break.
  • USJ added another to their tally to open up the second half, but the Sharks fired right back, taking four shots of their own but were unable to break through into the back of the net. However, in the 68th minute, Lauren Krupnikoff booted one past the keeper to put her squad on the board. Not letting up, the Sharks continued to put pressure on the home team's defense with multiple shots and corner kicks before Gabriella Almonte and Eleni Marques da Costa led Grace Nostrant for another Simmons' goal (3-2). Simmons out shot their hosts in the closing minutes as USJ held on for the win.
