Softball Drops a Pair to the Engineers as They Open Up at Home

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons softball faced a tough MIT team in their home opener on Wednesday afternoon. Despite a valiant effort, the Sharks dropped the twin-billing

Launching the Sharks' first homerun of the 2025, first-year Zoe Soule blasted her first collegiate career homerun - a two-run shot - in game two. Soule went three-for-four with two RBI on the night.

GAME 1: MIT 12, Simmons 6
MIT initiated the scoring in the first inning with a solo home run by Nikki Johnston. The Engineers extended their lead in the second inning, capitalizing on a series of plays that included a single by Lauren Thiessen and a passed ball, resulting in a 4-0 advantage.
Simmons responded in the bottom of the second inning. Junior Emery Kreidel-Reimer delivered a crucial triple to right center field, driving in two runs. First-year player Lizzi Sidler followed with a ground out to shortstop, allowing Kreidel-Reimer to score and narrowing the gap to 4-3.

However, MIT's offense proved formidable. In the third inning, Maggie Feng's double to right center brought in two more runs, increasing their lead to 6-3. The sixth inning saw the Engineers add four runs, highlighted by a three-run homer from Mikayla Cable, pushing the score to 10-3.

The Sharks showcased resilience in the sixth inning. Senior Raya Anderson hit an RBI single, and sophomore Emily Deleault contributed a two-RBI double to right center, reducing MIT's lead to 10-6. Despite these efforts, MIT added two more runs in the seventh inning, sealing the game at 12-6.

GAME 2: MIT 10, Simmons 4
Simmons took an early lead, scoring one run in both the first and second innings. In the first, junior Teagan Buckley executed a sacrifice fly, allowing sophomore Emily Deleault to score. The second inning saw junior Emery Kreidel-Reimer single up the middle, driving in senior Raya Anderson.

MIT responded in the third inning, capitalizing on a wild pitch and a ground out to tie the game at 2-2. The Engineers added two more runs in the fourth, benefiting from a fielding error and a triple by D. Benevides.

The Sharks showcased resilience in the bottom of the fourth. Sophomore Z. Soule hit a two-run homer to left field, bringing the score to 4-4.

However, MIT's offense surged in the fifth inning, adding four runs through a series of strategic plays to cruise to their second victory.
