BRIGHTON, Mass. – Junior right-hander
Piper Kinney tossed a no-hitter in a 9-0 shutout over non-conference Thomas College on Friday evening.
Kinney took a near perfect game into fifth inning before allowing batters to reach on back-to-back errors. The Marlborough, Massachusetts native struck out a season-high nine Terriers while walking just one to earn her first shutout of the season.
The Sharks' offense ignited early, scoring four runs in the first inning. Senior
Leah Berdeen reached on a fielding error that allowed senior
Raya Anderson to score. First-year
Zoe Soule followed with a double down the left-field line, bringing home Berdeen. The inning was capped by junior
Trinity Payne's two-run inside the park homer to right field.
The momentum continued in the second inning with junior
Emery Kreidel-Reimer scoring on a double by off the bat of junior
Emily Deleault. Anderson, then, tripled to center field, driving in Deleault and Kinney. Berdeen added an RBI groundout, bringing Anderson across the plate and extending the lead to eight.
In the fourth inning, junior outfielder
Teagan Buckley singled to left field, allowing Anderson to score the ninth and final run.
