WINTER HAVEN, Fla- Simmons Softball (2-2) returned for the third day of The Spring Games in Florida with a split day between Bluffton University (3-3) and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (3-3) on Wednesday afternoon.
GAME 1: Simmons 9, Bluffton 5
The Sharks showed a strong start to Wednesday's games, scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the first. The early lead helped secure the win for Simmons with a 9-5 victory over Bluffton. Junior
Piper Kinney secured her first win of the season with assistance from fellow junior
Ally Hyde who closed out the first game.
First-year Lizzi Silder played a pivotal role in today's victory, scoring two runs for Simmons in the first and second inning. The early lead was also assisted by two key runs and an RBI-single from junior
Teagan Buckley. Fellow junior
Piper Kinney pitched an impressive five innings for the Sharks as well as scoring two RBI for the team, advancing the lead to secure the win in the first game.
Simmons held strong, securing a 9-5 victory over Bluffton, with a key run scored in the sixth inning by first-year
Zoe Soule. With a 9-8 edge in hits, Simmons was able to showcase impressive offensive and defensive strategy in the first game on Wednesday afternoon.
GAME 2: Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute 6, Simmons 3
Despite the exciting start to Wednesday's games, Simmons lost the second game of the day to Rensselaer Polytechnic. Junior
Trinity Payne put up a strong effort with three strikeouts in the game across five innings. Fellow junior
Ally Hyde closed the game strong with an additional strikeout in the sixth inning.

Raya Anderson home in the first inning. Later efforts from junior
Piper Kinney and first-year
Zoe Soule helped the Sharks close the gap. Ultimately the Sharks fell just short of victory, losing to Rensselaer 6-3 in the final game of Wednesday's split. Wednesday's games put Simmons 3-3 this season.
