WINTER HAVEN, Fla – Simmons softball dropped a pair of games to the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg and Dominican University (Ill.) on the penultimate day in Florida.
GAME 1: University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg 11, Simmons 5
The Sharks started the first game with some quick innings, not scoring until the fourth when a throwing error from Pitt-Greensburg catcher allowed junior
Teagan Buckley to advance to third base and set up an RBI single from junior
Trinity Payne.
They continued to string hits together in the fifth, resulting in three runs, attributing RBI from juniors
Piper Kinney and
Teagan Buckley. After a quick 1-2-3 for the Sharks defense in the 6th, they were only able to score one additional run at the top of the seventh, moving the Sharks record to 3-4.
GAME 2: Dominican University 4, Simmons 0
Simmons junior
Piper Kinney was able to keep Dominican University to four runs, with three strikeouts and one walk. Junior
Teagan Buckley kept her bat going with a single, double and reaching on a fielder's choice. Ending the day with a record of 3-5, the Sharks will be looking for a good outing on their last day in playing in the Florida Sun.
SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior Teagan Buckley went 5-7 on the day with an RBI.
- Junior Ally Hyde pitched 4 innings with three strikeouts.
- Junior Piper Kinney went 2-4 with an RBI at the plate against Pitt-Greensburg before tossing a complete game against Dominican where she struck out three batters.
