WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Simmons softball (5-5) returns to Boston with a .500 mark after sweep Friday afternoon's doubleheader in two come-from-behind victories against Neumann Univeristy and Suffolk University.
GAME 1: Simmons 3, Neumann 2
While Simmons threatened to score in the early game and leaving runners stranded, the Sharks bats truly came alive during the fifth as they scored all three runs off 4 hits. A single up the middle from first year
Lizzi Sidler and a well-placed bunt that put senior
Raya Anderson on the bases.
Junior
Piper Kinney had a double that scored the two runners, and then Kinney herself crossed the plate after junior
Teagan Buckley drilled a single to left center. Holding Neumann to only one run for the final innings, Kinney earned her second win of the season allowing two earned runs on 10 hits.
GAME 2: Simmons 5, Suffolk 2
Coming back from a 2-0 deficit after the first inning, the Sharks rallied against the Rams. Scoring two in the fourth after a hit from first year
Zoe Soule and a single to the left side from junior
Emery Kreidel-Reimer, each resulting in an RBI.
Three crucial runs in the bottom of the 6th is what pulled the Sharks ahead of Suffolk, as errors made by Suffolk kept runners moving and in scoring position. As first year
Ella Donovan crossed the plate and first year
Zoe Soule capitalized on a throwing error by the third baseman to advance from second to third base, putting her in the perfect position to score on a wild pitch to make the score 5-2.
