BRIGHTON, Mass. – Junior right-hander
Ally Hyde tosses a one-hitter in game two as Simmons softball (15-19, 7-5 GNAC) sweeps Norwich University (4-14, 3-9 GNAC) in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) North Division action on Wednesday evening.
GAME 1: SIMMONS 2, NORWICH 1
Junior pitcher
Piper Kinney delivered a standout performance, earning her 10th win of the season. Kinney pitched a complete game, allowing just one run on six hits while striking out nine batters and issuing only one walk.
Offensively, the Sharks capitalized early. In the first inning, junior outfielder
Teagan Buckley drove in sophomore
Zoe Soule with a single through the left side, giving Simmons a 1–0 lead. The Sharks added to their lead in the fifth inning when senior center fielder
Raya Anderson tripled down the left-field line, bringing home Kinney for a 2–0 advantage.
Norwich managed to score in the sixth inning, but Kinney maintained her composure, retiring the side in the seventh to secure the win.
GAME 2: SIMMONS 1, NORWICH 0
Senior pitcher
Ally Hyde delivered a dominant performance in game two. Tossing a complete-game one-hitter, the Oregon native did not issue a walk and struck out one opposing batter. She also contributed offensively, going 2-for-3 at the plate.
The game's only run came in the fourth inning. After
Lizzi Sidler reached base,
Trinity Payne hit into a fielder's choice. Sidler advanced to third and then came in the back door on a double steal attempt.
Offensively, Simmons tallied eight hits.
Zoe Soule led the way with a 3-for-3 performance, including a triple. Payne added two hits, while
Teagan Buckley and Hyde each contributed one.
SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior right-hander Ally Hyde earned her fourth victory of the season after tossing a one-hitter against the Cadets in game two.
- Junior right-hander Piper Kinney picked up her 10th win of the season in game one, striking out nine opposing batters, while scattering just six hits.
- Senior centerfielder Raya Anderson tied Allie Mulhern for the program record in stolen bases, swiping second in the bottom of the third. She finished the day 2-for-3 with an RBI.
