BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons softball (10-17, 2-4 GNAC) dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader to Johnson & Wales University (12-12, 6-2 GNAC) on Sunday afternoon.
GAME 1: JWU 5, Simmons 1 – 8 innings
The game remained scoreless through the first three innings. In the bottom of the fourth, Simmons took a 1-0 lead when
Emery Kreidel-Reimer singled to left field, driving in
Teagan Buckley.
JWU responded in the top of the fifth, tying the game 1-1 with a single down the right-field line by Clee, which brought Floyd home.
The game extended into extra innings. In the top of the eighth, JWU's Amorelli tripled to right field, bringing in two runs. This was followed by a two-run homer to left-center by Pelletier, extending JWU's lead to 5-1.
GAME 2: JWU 11, Simmons 3
JWU took an early lead, scoring four runs. Simmons responded in the bottom half with a sacrifice fly by
Teagan Buckley, bringing in
Raya Anderson to make it 4-1.
The Wildcats added another run, but Simmons narrowed the gap to 5-3 with a two-RBI double down the left-field line by Buckley, scoring Anderson and Z Soule. Then the Wildcats extended their lead with five runs, securing the victory as Simmons couldn't respond in the bottom half.
Junior
Teagan Buckley accounted for all three Shark RBI, including a sacrifice fly and a two-RBI double.
SIMMONS HIGHLIGHTS
- Junior Emery Kreidel-Reimer went 1-3 with an RBI single in game one.
- Junior Teagan Buckley went 2-for-5 on the day with a double and three RBI.
- Junior right-hander Trinity Payne retired four batters on strikes in 4.2 innings of relief in game two.
