Game Recap: Volleyball |

Sharks Edged By Lions, Gulls In Boston

BOSTON, Mass. – Simmons University Volleyball opened up their season on the road at nearby Emerson College for a trimatch against the Lions and the Endicott College Gulls.

Simmons vs. Emerson
  • The Sharks took advantage of an Emerson attack error in the opening frame that sparked a 4-0 run to go on top, 9-6. However, both teams traded short scoring sprees until the score was locked up at 23-all. From there, the Sharks closed it out for the 25-23 win (1-0).
  • With Simmons on top, 10-9, the Lions capitalized on an 8-0 run to take set two by a score of 25-16.
  • A Iliana Diaz kill put the scoreboard at 18-all before the Sharks went ahead, 21-18. Emerson was unable to catch up and Hannah Pridgeon finished it off with a towering kill, 25-22 (2-1).
  • Emerson widened the gap midway through the fourth set and continued to pull away, 25-18 (2-2).
  • The Lions scored first in the final set and did not let their foot off the gas to claim the 3-2 overall win.
Simmons vs. Endicott
  • Rookie setter Keagan Serverius was consistent all day in her collegiate debut, dishing out a perfect set to teammate Pridgeon to make it a 15-13 game in the opening set. The Sharks remained on top until four straight points from the Gulls gave them the one point advantage. However, that advantage was short lived as the Sharks regained the lead to earn the 25-23 win (1-0).
  • Down 15-11 in the second, Simmons used a handful of Endicott errors to tie the game at 15-15. The Gulls were able to hold on down the stretch to tie it up at 1-1 thanks to a 25-21 win (1-1)
  • Endicott claimed the final two frames by scores of 25-16 and 25-10 for the comeback win (3-1).
