Sharks Top Anna Maria In Final Seconds

PAXTON, Mass. – Simmons University Soccer played the Anna Maria Amcats under the lights this evening and with just seconds to go in regulation, the Sharks scored the go ahead goal to win the game 3-2.

How It Happened
  • In the 25th minute, Lauren Krupnikoff hooked in a stellar corner kick that nicked off an Anna Maria defender to put the Sharks on top, 1-0.
  • Then, with less than a minute to go until the break, Gabriella Almonte juked out her defender to cross the ball into classmate Ella Askren who knocked in the second goal of the game past the diving keeper, 2-0.
  • Anna Maria was able to lock up the scoreboard in the second half, but Simmons did not slow down in the final minutes. Krupnikoff nearly won it with a perfectly placed shot that went just high from nearly 30 yards out on a free kick, but the Sharks' relentlessness pressure gave them another shot. After a foul in the box, Sarah Rosingana stepped up to take the penalty kick with 17 seconds on the clock. The calm rookie ripped a shot into the side netting to regain the advantage and eventual 3-2 victory.
Beyond The Box Score
