Sharks, Pilgrims End In 1-1 Stalemate

BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Simmons University Soccer team jumped into conference action today as they hosted the Pilgrims of New England College (NEC). After 90 minutes of play, the Sharks and Pilgrims ended in a 1-1 draw.

How It Happened
  • The Sharks controlled the tempo in the first half, out shooting the Pilgrims, 8-5, but were unable to break through as the scoreboard read 0-0 at halftime. 
  • In the 73rd minute, Olivia Riley knocked in the first goal of the game to put the Sharks up, 1-0. However, six minutes later, the Pilgrims were granted a penalty kick in which they converted to knot up the score at 1-1. Battling until the final whistle, the Sharks nearly put together one last scoring drive but the whistle sounded in the draw.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Rookie Olivia Riley netted her first collegiate goal this afternoon.
  • Simmons heads up to Maine this Wednesday to play the Monks of St. Joseph's College at 7 p.m. as they continue league action.
