Monks Narrowly Escape Sharks In Shoot Outs

STANDISH, Maine, – Simmons University Field Hockey took a trip up to Maine to take on the Saint Joseph's College (SJC) Monks in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) competition today. The Sharks and Monks battled for 80 minutes before the home team was able to edge the Sharks in penalty shots after the 2-2 draw.

How It Happened
  • The Sharks started off sharp offensively, as Hailey Brisson put her squad on top, 1-0, just two minutes after the opening whistle. Shortly after, the Monks sought revenge to even out the scoreboard at 1-1. As both sides battled to secure the go-ahead goal in the eventful first quarter, the Sharks' Nora Desrosiers ripped a shot past the Monks' keeper to lift Simmons to the 2-1 advantage.
  • Both squads continued to fire off shots in second frame as the Sharks controlled the tempo into and out of the break, 2-1 heading into the fourth.
  • SJC continued to knock on the door in the fourth quarter, but after a few off target shots, the home team was able to tie the game up at 2-2.
  • After two scoreless overtimes, SJC went ahead in penalty shots to claim the win.
