Cadets Use Second Half Surge To Top Sharks

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons University Soccer hosted the Norwich University Cadets today in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. In the first half, the Sharks and Cadets matched up evenly to a 0-0 score at the break before the Cadets outscored the Sharks, 4-1 in the second for the win.

How It Happened
  • The Cadets put early pressure on the Sharks' defense but keeper Mikaela Marie Javar kept the Cadets scoreless, making four saves in the first half. Midway through the first 45 minutes, the Sharks began to settle in but were unable to rip off a shot to bring the score to 0-0 at the break.
  • Norwich netted the first goal just six minutes into the second. However, the Sharks' had their focus on tying up the game. In the 60th minute, Lauren Krupnikoff curled in a corner kick, finding the head of Eleni Marques da Costa who scored the equalizer (1-1).
  • However, the visitors regained the slight lead in the 78th minute, before scoring a pair of insurance goals down the stretch to come out with the win.

  • Second year student-athlete Eleni Marques da Costa headed in her first collegiate goal in the second half.
  • The Sharks play next on Wednesday, October 1 at 6 p.m. on the road against the University of Saint Joseph's Blue Jays.
