Sharks Fly Past Falcons In Regular-Season Finale

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Simmons University Field Hockey wrapped up its 2026 regular-season with a 2-0 shutout victory over non-conference opponent Fitchburg State University this evening. The Sharks head into the postseason on a high note as they prepare for the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) playoffs on Saturday.

How It Happened
  • After a scoreless opening quarter, the Sharks struck early in the second following a well-executed penalty corner. Hailey Brisson took the initial shot and collected her own rebound before finding Alex Wemple, who buried a shot in the back of the net to give Simmons a 1-0 lead.
  • In the third quarter, Katy Paveglio sent a ball toward the goal, where Penelope Long got a stick on it and redirected it into the net to double the Sharks' lead, 2-0. Simmons' defense closed it out the rest of the way to secure the shutout victory.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Penelope Long scored her fourth goal of the season, while Alex Wemple netted her third.
  • The No. 6-seeded Sharks look ahead to the GNAC First Round on Saturday, October 31 as they travel to Connecticut to play the No. 3 Blue Jays for a 12 p.m. start.
