WORCESTER, Mass. – Returning to the pool for day two of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Championships, Simmons University Swimming and Diving earned a number of podium marks once again. The Sharks jumped ahead of Regis to claim third place going into the final day of the championship tomorrow.
By the Numbers
- Opening the finals session tonight, the 200 yard freestyle relay team (Laura Luthi, Ainsley Horan, Julia Long, and Charlotte Doherty) secured a time of 1:53.61 to take fifth place.
- Carli Quinlan continued her dominant showing in the 100 yard butterfly, surging to the wall in 58.33 to claim the GNAC crown.
- In the 500 yard freestyle, Horan put together a strong race to register the fourth-best time of the night, clocking in at 5:58.80 for a new personal best.
- Luthi was right in the mix in the 50 yard backstroke, racing down to the touch as the top three finishers hit the wall nearly simultaneously. Luthi secured third with a time of 30.28 to set a new personal record.
- With two swimmers in the 200 yard breaststroke A final, Julia Long collected a bronze medal with a time of 2:42.54, while Doherty followed with a top-five finish after clocking a new person best time of 2:45.34.
- Bee Eckels shrunk the margin during the butterfly leg of the 100 yard individual medley (1:04.83) to solidify a silver-medal finish. Eckels time also shattered her previous personal best of 1:08.07 set this past November.
- As the 800 yard freestyle relay concluded the evening, the Sharks' Quinlan, Horan, Luthi, and Eckels cruised their way to gold with a time of 8:31.58.
