Sharks Shutout Cougars In Opening Day Split

CLERMONT, Fla. – Simmons University Softball stepped onto the dirt this morning for their first games of the 2026 season at the Spring Games. The Sharks blanked the Clark Cougars, 2-0 to start the day before falling to the Knights of Neumann in game two, 12-8.

Simmons vs. Clark
  • Piper Kinney struck out the side in the first and second inning to spark the pitcher's duel against the Cougars.
  • In the home half of the fifth inning, Kinney helped herself out with an infield single before coming around to score thanks to an Abigail Carvalho double to right center field. Next batter up, Teagan Buckley belted a sac fly to straight away center to bring Emily Deleault across home plate who reached base via a walk.
  • With runners on first and second in the top of the seventh, Kinney finished the job and the shutout with her 10th strikeout of the morning to lift the Sharks to victory.
Simmons vs. Neumann
  • Simmons capitalized off of two walks, three errors and two timely hits to put a three spot on the board in the top of the first.
  • Neumann cut the deficit to one after scoring twice in the home of the frame.
  • With two down in the second, Emma Soule singled to left field to send Carvalho home to make it a 4-2 game in favor of the Sharks.
  • However, in the home half of the second, the Knights were able to double up the Sharks, 8-4, after four free passes and as many hits.
  • The Knights continued to hold the upper hand for the rest of the way, despite a never back down front from the Sharks. In the final three innings, Simmons battled on both sides of the ball, capped off by a home run over the left field fence off the bat of Nevaeh Eth in the top of the seventh. In the circle, Dakota Vaudreuil limited the Knights' offense through 4.2 innings, scattering five hits.
