Sharks Take Care Of Business In Game One

CLERMONT, Fla. – On the second day at the Spring Games, Simmons University Softball took on Saint Vincent and Bethany Lutheran College. The Sharks earned another shutout victory with a 7-0 win over Saint Vincent and dropped an 11-0 decision to Bethany Lutheran.

  • In the top of the second, Emery Kreidel-Reimer singled up the middle and quickly advanced to third after a Piper Kinney double to center field. Then, Emily Deleault singled to bring home Kreidel-Reimer before Kinney scooted home after a mishandle by the center fielder (2-0). Not done with the frame, Abigail Carvalho doubled to left center to score Deleault to give Simmons the 3-0 lead.
  • After Kinney's third 1,2,3 inning in the top of the fourth, Nevaeh Eth knocked in Trinity Payne from third base with a single to left field (4-0). Two batters later, Lauren Stenmon launched a two-run double to right center field to add to their tally (6-0). Stenmon crossed the plate after an infield single off the bat of Teagan Buckley to make it 7-0 in favor of Simmons.
  • Right-handed pitcher Kinney, continued her dominance in the circle, keeping Saint Vincent hitless through the first 5.1 innings. Overall, Kinney allowed just one hit, and struck out 12 in 7.0 innings of work.

  • After both sides went scoreless for the first two innings, the Vikings put a three-spot on the board in the top of the third.
  • The Vikings continued to keep the Sharks off balance and string together hits to score twice in the fourth and six times in the fifth. 
Beyond The Box Score
  • Lauren Stenmon registered her first collegiate hit with a monstrous double off the wall in the first game.
  • The Sharks have an off day tomorrow before returning to the diamond on Wednesday.
