Engineers Stymie Sharks At Daly

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons University Softball squared off against the MIT Engineers this afternoon on Daly Field. Despite the game being played on Simmons' home turf, MIT remained the home team as the Engineers intended to host but were unable due to field construction. The Engineers swept the day by scores of 12-3 and 15-0.

Game One
  • The Sharks put the ball in ball early, with one hit in the first and two in the second while starting pitcher, Piper Kinney kept the Engineers hitless for the first two innings.
  • MIT bounced back offensively in the third to post a five-run frame thanks to six hits.
  • Emma Soule and Emily Deleault earned free passes to start the top of the fourth, with Soule eventually coming home to score on an Abigail Carvalho sacrifice fly (5-1).
  • The Engineers took advantage of a handful of Shark miscues to widen the gap to 12-1 in the home half of the fourth.
  • Not going away easy, Trinity Payne led off the fifth with a walk and a batter later, Teagan Buckley doubled to left center to put runners on the corners. Emery Kreidel-Reimer singled up the middle to score both Payne and Buckley (12-3), but MIT was able to hold off anymore damage to take the win.
Game Two
  • MIT picked up where they left off at the plate to start off the night cap as the Engineer's pitching staff controlled the strike zone to limit the Sharks' offense.
  • The Engineers plated multiple runs in the opening innings to gain momentum to complete the second game in five.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Both Teagan Buckley and Zoe Soule registered their third two-hit game of the young season.
  • Emery Kreidel-Reimer knocked in her first RBI's of the season in game one.
  • First year pitcher, Skyler Wessels made her collegiate debut in game two.
  • The Sharks return to Daly tomorrow to host the Judges of Brandeis University starting at noon for a double-header.
