Judges Rally In Eighth To Complete Sunday Sweep

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons University Softball returned to Daly Field to host the Brandeis University Judges this afternoon in non-league action. Brandeis won in eight-innings by a score of 11-4 in game one and continued their momentum for an 9-0 win in game two.

Game One
  • The Judges' lead-off hitter used her speed to apply pressure on the infield and quickly found herself in scoring position. Simmons nearly escaped the inning with a with a solid relay from the outfield to nail the batter at second to limit the damage, but the runner already crossed the plate (1-0).
  • Emily Deleault led off the bottom of the fifth with a double to left center and moved to third thanks to a sacrifice bunt from Piper Kinney. Next batter up, Abigail Carvalho did her job with a sac fly to straight away center field to tie up the ball game (1-1).
  • Kinney allowed just three hits through the following five innings in the circle. Kinney continued to deal in the circle, and was accompanied by a defensive clinic from outfielders, Teagan Buckley and Zoe Soule to keep the game locked up.
  • After flashing the leather in left, Buckley put on a helmet and kicked off the sixth with a single up the middle and later stood on second after Emma Soule put down a sac bunt. Then, two batters later Deleault singled down the left field line, scoring Buckley to put the Sharks in front, 2-1. Brandeis made a bit of noise in their last chance to force extras where the Judges scored nine unearned runs in the eighth (11-2). In the bottom of the inning, Nevaeh Eth and Emery Kreidel-Reimer both recorded RBI's but the Judges lead was enough to come out with the win.
Game Two
  • Brandeis opened up game two with a three-run first inning to set the tone. After widening the gap to 5-0, Buckley continued to have a day at the plate with a double down the left field line in the bottom of the second but was left stranded.
  • In the final innings, the visitors added to their side to complete the game in five.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Emily Deleault hit her first two-bagger of the season in game one.
  • Teagan Buckley notched her second double of the weekend in game two.
  • The Sharks hit the road for a mid-week DH on Wednesday, March 18 to play the Rhode Island College Anchorwomen.
