Sharks Explode For 11 Runs Behind Kinney’s No-No In Split With Terriers

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons University Softball welcomed the Terriers of Thomas College in non-conference action at Daly Field today. The Sharks caught fire offensively in game one, highlighted by a Piper Kinney no-hitter to win the opener, 11-0 before dropping a tight one in game two, 9-6.

Game One
  • Kinney sat the Terriers down in order to kick off the afternoon. With one down in the home half of the first, Zoe Soule lifted one out of the park to give the Sharks an early 2-0 lead.
  • Soule continued to swing the bat well as the sophomore doubled down the left field line to bring Emily Deleault home (3-0). Teagan Buckley's bat tacked on another as Abigail Carvalho scored to make it 4-0 in favor of the home team. Not done in the inning, Emery Kreidel-Reimer belted out a three-run homer to widen the gap to 7-0 after two innings.
  • Starting pitcher, Kinney once again struck out all three batters she faced in the top of the third. Simmons stayed hot at the plate, stringing together five hits to score four more runs (11-0).
  • With a no-hitter on the line, Kinney stayed calm striking out the final two batters in the top of the fifth to earn the run-rule win and no-hitter.
Game Two
  • Thomas got on the board early as they took advantage of an infield error to go on top, 2-0 in the first. In the bottom of the frame, Simmons shrunk the deficit to match the scoreboard at 2-2 thanks to RBI's from first year players, Carvalho and Nevaeh Eth.
  • A bases clearing double in the second allowed Thomas to regain the lead (5-2). Pinch hitter Meredith Alland singled to right center in the second to score Kreidel-Reimer (5-3).
  • The Terriers stretched their lead to 9-3 as both side battled the rain. Simmons, continued to chip away scoring once in the third and twice in the sixth to make it a 9-6 ball game. Despite the squads starting the seventh inning, the rain became too much of a factor as the game was called.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Piper Kinney recorded her second collegiate no-hitter this morning, her first no-no was also against Thomas almost one year ago today.
  • Emery Kreidel-Reimer hit her first collegiate home run in game one. The senior has also recorded three straight games with two hits in each one.
  • Fellow home run hitter, Zoe Soule booked a season-high in hits (three) and RBI's (four) in the first game.
  • Teagan Buckley tied her career-high in game one with a season-high three hits.
  • The Sharks continue non-league play as they travel to Framingham on Wednesday, March 25 to take on the Rams.
