Sharks Withstand Late Monk Rally For GNAC Sweep

BRIGHTON, Mass. – The Sharks hosted their second conference twin bill of the season on a brisk afternoon at Daly Field as they played the Monks of Saint Joseph's College (Maine). Simmons rolled through game one with a 9-1, run-rule victory, before walking it off in game two, 7-6.

Game One
  • With the bases juiced and one down, Emery Kreidel-Reimer sliced one down the left field line to score a pair of Sharks to lead, 2-0. A good eye at the plate by Emma Soule sent another Shark across home plate to go up, 3-0 after one.
  • Starting pitcher, Piper Kinney remained steady in the circle keeping the Monks scoreless until the visitors took advantage of a throwing error to make it a 3-1 ball game. Teagan Buckley calmed the Shark defense, making three straight standout plays in left field to escape the inning without any further damage.
  • Taking advantage of another bases loaded opportunity, this time Zoe Soule laced a single down the left field line to widen the gap to 5-1 to force a pitching change. Next batter up, Nevaeh Eth launched a sacrifice fly to straight away center (6-1) before Kreidel-Reimer singled up the middle, allowing Z. Soule to bring the scoreboard to 7-1.
  • With E. Soule on second base after a double to center field in the fifth, Kinney roped an RBI-single to the Monks' center fielder to come within one run of ending the game early. Abigail Carvalho reached on a infield error to extend the inning, allowing Z. Soule to hit a single to knock in Kinney to win it, 9-1.
Game Two
  • In the bottom of the second inning, Isabel McLam hit a deep fly ball to left center field to score, pinch runner Jocelyn Harms on a sac fly (1-0).
  • Kreidel-Reimer knocked in another Shark as the senior hit a double to left center (2-0).
  • The first batter up for the Monks in the top of the fourth facing starting pitcher, Trinity Payne, rocketed a line drive straight at Payne whose quick reaction made an incredible catch less than 40 feet from the plate to aid in another scoreless frame for the visitors.
  • Payne led off the home half of the fourth with a walk after coming back from an 0-2 count to quickly score after a McLam double (3-0). Kinney made it 4-0 after a fielder's choice.
  • Continuing to add to their lead, Kreidel-Reimer scored on a wild pitch to make it, 5-0 in the fifth.
  • The Monks connected on a game-high five hits in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit to one (5-4), before taking the 6-5 lead in the top of the seventh.
  • First year, Nevaeh Eth singled through the left side to start the seventh inning rally for Simmons. A Buckley single and a pair of walks locked the scoreboard up at 6-6. Then, Emily Deleault's patience at the plate earned the senior a game-winning walk to score Buckley (7-6).
Beyond The Box Score
