Sharks Ground Cadets In Triumphant Sweep

NORTHFIELD, Vt. – Simmons University took the bus up to Vermont this morning to square off against the Cadets of Norwich University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play. The Sharks' bats caught fire from the start as they swept the Cadets by scores of 7-0 and 16-3. With the league wins, Simmons improves their GNAC record to 4-2.

Game One
  • Rookie, Nevaeh Eth laced a triple to right center to open up the top of the second inning. Two batters later, Teagan Buckley grounded out the other way, allowing Eth to score (1-0).
  • Classmate Abigail Carvalho followed suit with another right side ground out to score Emma Soule to make it 2-0 in the third.
  • Mirroring the second inning, Eth hit another triple to right field, coming within just 60 feet of home. Buckley answered the call to bring Eth home with a sacrifice fly to right field (3-0).
  • Standout hurler, Piper Kinney once again was rock solid from the rubber, not allowing a hit in the first three innings giving up a lead off double in the fourth where the runner was thrown out trying to make it a triple.
  • Simmons tacked on three more runs in the top half of the sixth inning with a trio of singles to widen the gap to 5-0.
  • The Sharks continued to pass the bat around in the seventh to extend their lead to 7-0. Kinney went the distance, scattering only four hits, one walk, and 11 strikeouts for her sixth win of the season.
Game Two
  • Five straight hits by the Sharks in the second inning resulted in a quick 5-0 lead. Emery Kreidel-Reimer capped off the frame with an RBI-double to make it 6-0.
  • The offense remained piping hot in the third, registering four productive hits to stretch their advantage to 10-nothing.
  • After Norwich put a run up on the board, the Sharks did not let up, as Buckley led off the fourth with a single, followed by a Trinity Payne single, a Soule double, and an Emily Deleault single. Three straight fielder's choice at bats and one more single tilted the scoreboard once again to 15-1.
  • Payne doubled down the left field line to score Tess Silvia for the Sharks' 16th run of the afternoon. Norwich put two more runs on the board in the fifth, but the damage was done in the dominant 16-3 win.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Nevaeh Eth recorded her first three hit game of her collegiate career, including her third triple of the year.
