Cardinals, Gators Top Sharks In Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Simmons University Sharks Softball Team fell to the St. John Fisher Cardinals by a score of 8-2 and were edged by the Gators of Allegheny, 4-3.

Simmons vs. St. John Fisher
  • After a scoreless first inning, the Cardinals scored once in the second and added another in the third (2-0).
  • In the bottom of the third, the Sharks battled back to tie it up at 2-2 with a Piper Kinney single up the middle.
  • The Cardinals were able to regain the lead in the top of the fourth and held on for the win.
Simmons vs. Allegheny
  • Nevaeh Eth singled to center field to send Kinney home to take an early 1-0 advantage in the top of the first.
  • Allegheny answered back with a two-run double to go on top, 2-1 in the home half of the frame.
  • Starting pitcher Ally Hyde kept the Gators honest at the plate, allowing just one hit through the following three innings. 
  • The Gators put the ball in play in the fifth and were able to string together a pair of hits with a Shark fielding miscue to double up Simmons, 4-2.
  • Kinney wore a pitch in the top of the seventh to get the lead-off runner on base. Then with two down and Kinney on first, Trinity Payne hit the fence for an RBI-double to make it a one-run game, but the home team held on for the narrow win.

  • Simmons looks ahead to tomorrow, March 6 for their final two games in Florida starting at 10 a.m. at Hancock Park.
