Sharks Conclude Week At The Spring Games

CLERMONT, Fla. – On their final day in Clermont, Florida, the Simmons University Sharks squared off against Illinois College and Alvernia University at Hancock Park where they fell by scores of 10-2 and 8-0, respectively.

Simmons vs. Illinois Col.
  • After the visitors struck first in the top of the opening inning, Piper Kinney led off the home half of the frame with a single down the left field line. Abigail Carvalho did her job at the plate to move Kinney into scoring position. A fielding miscue elongated the inning and gave way for Kinney score and knot it up at 1-1. Then, with Zoe Soule at second, Nevaeh Eth hit one back up the middle to give the Sharks the 2-1 edge.
  • However, Illinois Col. continued to put runs on the board and ultimately ended the game early, 10-2.
Simmons vs. Alvernia
  • Alvernia plated eight runs in the bottom of the second to quickly take control.
  • With one on and two outs, Simmons nearly got on the board, but Alvernia was able to sneak out of the frame unharmed with a relay home from center field to preserve the eventual five-inning shutout.
