Sharks Ride Past Raiders In GNAC Play

NASHUA, N.H. – Simmons University traveled up to New Hampshire today for a conference twin bill against the Rivier University Raiders. The Sharks cruised through game one, 11-1 before securing game two by a score of 4-3.

Game One
  • Abigail Carvalho hit a single to left center and quickly came around to score after Zoe Soule laced a double and ended up on third after a Raider miscue. First year, Nevaeh Eth singled down the left field line to plate Soule to make it 2-0 in favor of the Sharks.
  • Rivier split the difference in the home half of the frame with an unearned run before Simmons returned to work offensively in the second. Emily Deleault, Piper Kinney and Emery Kreidel-Reimer each booked RBI doubles in the six-hit second inning to widen the gap to 7-1.
  • Kinney pitched a 1,2,3 inning in the bottom of the second as the visitors exploded once again offensively with six hits to build on their comfortable lead, 11-1.
  • In the final three innings, Kinney surrendered just one more hit as the Sharks ended it in five innings.
Game Two
  • Kreidel-Reimer and Teagan Buckley each went the opposite way to score a run in the top of the first and go ahead, 2-0.
  • The Raiders cut the Sharks' lead in half in the home half of the inning (2-1).
  • After Kinney singled to second base in the top of the second, Carvalho hit a double to score teammate Kinney to make it 3-1. Continuing to keep it tight, the home team added another to their side in the home half of the second (3-2) before knotting it up in the third (3-3).
  • Neither side was able to bring across the go ahead run until the top of the sixth inning when Trinity Payne led off the inning with a double to left field. Jocelyn Harms pinch ran for Payne and came around to score after a Kinney single up the middle (4-3).
  • Kinney sat the Raiders down in order in the sixth and the seventh to come away with the victory and sweep.
