Sharks Sweep Chargers As Deleault Reaches 100 Hit Milestone

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons University Softball hosted the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer College (CSC) this evening under the lights at Daly Field. The Sharks completed the evening sweep as they took game one, 7-0 and game two by a score of 11-3.

Game One
  • In the home half of the first, Simmons was able to cause confusion with runners on the corners to plate the game's first run, 1-0
  • Neither side was able to string anything together at the plate for the following three innings before the Sharks found their groove in the home half of the fifth.
  • With runners on first and second, Teagan Buckley singled to left field to score Zoe Soule (2-0). Then, Isabel McLam put the ball in play to force an infield error by the Chargers to score Emery Kreidel-Reimer (3-0). Next batter up, Emma Soule laced a triple down the left field line to widen the gap to 5-0.
  • Piper Kinney completed her sixth scoreless frame from the circle in the sixth, as pinch hitter Lauren Stenmon ripped a single up the middle to make it a 7-0 ball game to secure the eventual win.
Game Two
  • CSC got off to a quick start as the visitors scored three times in the top of the first. However, their lead was short lived as the Sharks chipped away thanks to an RBI-double from Abigail Carvalho to start the frame (3-1). Carvalho later scored on a wild pitch before Buckley singled up the middle to bring home Nevaeh Eth (3-3).
  • Simmons took the slight lead in the second on a Charger error and then stretched their lead top 6-3 after a triple from Buckley and a sac fly from Trinity Payne.
  • Carvalho's second double of the game brought the scoreboard to 7-3 in the fifth.
  • After the Chargers had runners at the corners with one out, E. Soule made a double play after chasing down a pop up bunt before doubling up the runner at first to escape the inning.
  • Timely hits and heads up base running from the Sharks sealed the deal in the bottom of the sixth to end the game early, 11-3.
Beyond The Box Score
  • In game one, Emily Deleault recorded her 100th career hit.
  • Piper Kinney matched her season-high in strikeouts with 12.
  • Abigail Carvalho had two doubles in a single game for the first time in her young career.
