Sharks Rise Above Saints In Dominant Sweep

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Under the lights this evening, Simmons University Softball hosted nearby rival Emmanuel for Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action where the Sharks blanked the Saints in game one by a score of 8-0 and followed that up with another shortened game, 15-1.

Game One
  • The Saints loaded up the bases in the top of the first inning, but Piper Kinney regrouped in the circle to spoil the Saints' hopes of striking first with a fair of strikeouts and a fly out to end the inning.
  • Simmons walked their way across home plate in the second to take the early 1-0 lead.
  • Teagan Buckley started the two out rally in the bottom of the third, with a single through the right side. Trinity Payne followed that up with another single to left, before classmate Emma Soule tagged one to the fence in left center to plate two more for the Sharks (3-0).
  • Kinney once again tossed a gem in the circle, striking out the side in the fourth before surrendering just her third hit to the visitors in the top of the fifth.
  • In the bottom of the fifth, the Sharks got down to business, stringing together five hits, with the fifth being a two-RBI single from Emery Kreidel-Reimer to end the game early, 8-0.
Game Two
  • Emmanuel struck first with an unearned run in the top of the first inning (1-0). However, that lead was short lived as Simmons scored twice in the bottom of the frame thanks to another timely hit from Kreidel-Reimer (2-1).
  • Payne kept the Saints uneasy at the plate as the visitors were unable to plate another run. The Sharks however, passed the bat around and then some in the third, scoring 12 runs to widen the gap to 15-1.
  • Ally Hyde took the circle in the fifth and retired the side in order, finishing it off with a strikeout on a nasty change-up as the Sharks rolled to a 15-1 win.
Beyond The Box Score
  • Tonight's sweep is the first time the Sharks have taken two from the Saints since 2014.
  • Abigail Carvalho and Emery Kreidel-Reimer now have 20 RBI's each to lead the team.
  • In the last five twin bills, both Emma Soule and Emery Kreidel-Reimer have recorded one or more doubles.
  • Simmons remains at home as they host the University of Saint Joseph Blue Jays on Saturday, Aprill 11 starting at noon for Senior Day.
