Sharks Battle Wellesley To Scoreless Draw In Home-Opener

BRIGHTON, Mass. – Simmons University Soccer welcomed the Wellesley College Blue to Daly Field on tonight, battling to a hard-fought 0-0 draw in the season-opener.

How It Happened
  • The Sharks and Blue traded an early shot apiece before Wellesley rattled off four corner kicks in a four-minute span. The Simmons defense stood tall, keeping the Blue off the board. The Sharks then began to find their rhythm, earning a pair of corners and putting two shots on goal to send the match into halftime scoreless.
  • In the 60th minute, Simmons' Taylor Clairmont ripped a shot on target, but the Blue goalkeeper made a diving save to preserve the deadlock.
  • With just over five minutes remaining, Wellesley had its best opportunity of the night, but keeper Lauren Sanchez made an incredible save to take the air out of the Blue's attack. The Sharks continued to battle down the stretch to earn the hard-fought nil-nil draw.

  • The Sharks held Wellesley scoreless for the first time since 2012.
  • Keeper Lauren Sanchez reached double-digit saves for the second time in her Simmons career.
  • Simmons remains at Daly Field for another home contest on Saturday, September 5, when it hosts Fisher College at 1 p.m.
