Simmons Rallies Past Curry In Five Sets

MILTON, Mass. – Simmons University Volleyball hit the road for a non-conference tilt against the Curry College Colonels. Despite dropping the first set, the Sharks battled back in a big way to earn the 3-2 victory on the Colonels' home court.

How It Happened

  • Gabrielle Pattie delivered a service ace to knot the opening set at 19-19, marking the ninth tie of a tightly contested frame. Following a kill from Madeline Flanagan, Curry closed the set on a 4-0 run to claim a 25-20 victory and a 1-0 match lead.
  • Simmons answered emphatically in the second set. Hannah Pridgeon opened the scoring with a kill before serving during an 8-0 run that gave the Sharks a commanding 9-0 advantage. Six different Sharks recorded at least one kill in the frame, led by Mia LeBrun's five kills as Simmons cruised to a 25-11 win to even the match at one set apiece.
  • The Sharks once again jumped out to an early lead in the third set, but Curry battled back with a 7-1 run midway through the frame. Simmons responded with four straight points, yet the Colonels maintained control down the stretch to secure a 25-18 win and regain a 2-1 lead in the match.
  • Neither team was able to seize momentum in the fourth set as the two sides traded points throughout a competitive battle. With the score tied late, Simmons closed the frame on a 5-2 run to earn a 25-21 victory and force a decisive fifth set.
  • Curry held a slim 6-5 lead early in the fifth before the Sharks swung the momentum with three consecutive points to move ahead 8-6. The Colonels evened the score at 8-8, but Simmons responded with a dominant 7-1 run to take a 15-9 set victory and secure the 3-2 match win.
