BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Simmons University Tennis extended its winning streak to eight matches with a 4-3 victory over Bridgewater State University this afternoon at Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts. The Sharks improved to 8-1 on the season with the win.
How It Happened
- Simmons grabbed the doubles point after taking two of the three matches. Masha Shutts and Amoli Vad earned a 6-4 win at No. 1 doubles, while Emilie Lapointe and Victoria McCrann posted a 6-3 victory at No. 2 doubles.
- Lapointe was first off the court in singles play, defeating her counterpart 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2 singles to double the Sharks' lead.
- The Bears responded with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles to even the match at 2-2.
- Shutts put Simmons back in front with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over the Bears' top singles spot.
- Bridgewater State once again drew even, taking No. 4 singles to knot the match at 3-3 and leave the team result up to the final court.
- With the match on the line for the second straight match, Vad bounced back after dropping the opening set and rattled off a 6-2, 6-1 finish to defeat her No. 3 opponent, securing the deciding fourth point and the 4-3 victory for the Sharks.
The Sharks travel up to Vermont this weekend to play the Vermont State Lyndon Hornets on Saturday, September 26 at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader.
