Paxton, Mass. – Simmons Softball swept the Anna Maria AMCATS in a doubleheader today in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action. Anna Maria remains winless on the season at 0-12 (0-2 GNAC) while Simmons' record improves to 7-8 (3-1 GNAC).

GAME 1

Simmons' freshman Amanda Cordeiro (Fall River, Mass.) pitched a 5-inning no-hitter and Emily Cunningham (Cotuit, Mass.) had a second inning grand slam to lead the Sharks to an 11-0 win in game one of the doubleheader against the AMCATS.

The Sharks had two big innings scoring 6 runs in the second and five runs in the top of the fifth, they also had 17 hits on the day.

Catcher Katie McCarthy (Falmouth, Mass.) was a perfect 3-for-3 with an RBI while teammates Amanda Gould (Kingstown, NH) and Christina Mulcahy (Cambridge, Mass.) each went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI's.

Anna Maria's best chance of the day was in the bottom of the fourth inning when senior Mary Moroski (Worcester, Mass.) walked to break up the perfect game and Liz Clark (Dover, NH) reached behind her on an error to put runners on first and second. Cristina Turley (Waterford, Conn.) popped up to second base to end the inning.

GAME 2

Simmons once again banged out 17 hits against the AMCATS en route to a 15-1 win in game two. Simmons' scored five runs in each of the first three innings.

With the bases loaded in the top of the first Cailin Pagel (Dorchester, Mass.) had an RBI single followed by a Lauren Backhaus (Windsor, Conn.) walk. Victoria Luongo (Medford, Mass,) then cleared the bases with a 3RBI double to centerfield.

Mulcahy put the game out of reach when she delivered a 3-run home run in the top of the second inning.

Anna Maria scored their only run of the day in the bottom of the fourth inning when Tabitha Ruggeri (Sturbridge, Mass.) scored from third on a Simmons' error.

Simmons' pitcher Lauren Backhaus gave up one hit and struck out eight on the day to pick up the win.
