BOSTON, Mass. – Diving into the pool for the first meet of the 2025-2026 season, Simmons University Swimming put up a valiant effort, with multiple top three finishes in both relay and individual events, but ultimately the Sharks fell to the visiting Westfield State Owls, 145-125.
By The Numbers
- Despite the delay, the Sharks started the meet out with a win in the 200 yard medley relay. Laura Luthi, Julia Long, Carli Quinlan and Bee Eckels teamed up to secure first place (2:01.57).
- Quinlan took the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.58, while teammate Isabel Barry-Ruiz finished in third.
- Luthi claimed second place in the 200 yard backstroke.
- Long earned a second place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke, followed by teammate Charlotte Doherty who secured third.
- Chaelin Humphrey took the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:07.73.
- Eckels finished in second place in the 50 yard freestyle.
- Anna Kelly won the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 1:02.02.
- Luthi and Ainsley Horan finished in second and third in the 100 yard backstroke.
- In the 100 yard breaststroke, Eckels took the top spot with a time of 1:17.46 while teammate Long finished in third.
- Barry-Ruiz and Kelly finished one behind the other, taking second and third place in the 500 yard freestyle.
- Quinlan earned first place in the 50 yard butterfly with a time of 27.28 with teammate Humphrey coming in second.
- Eckels picked up another top place finish in the 100 yard individual medley with a time of 1:08.08.
- The Sharks closed the meet with a second place finish in the 200 yard freestyle relay with the team of Quinlan, Luthi, Humphrey and Barry-Ruiz.
- Melanie Powers won the diving with a score of 177.53. Her teammate Autumn Welch took second place.

- Next week, the Sharks hit the road, heading west to take on Smith at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 7 and will head out again the following morning to race Wellesley and Merrimack at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 8.
