BOSTON, Mass. – Simmons University Soccer alumna Dr. Lindsey Butler '11 was recently named to Boston Magazine's list of the 150 Most Influential Bostonians, recognizing her work and leadership throughout the Greater Boston community. 

Butler studied Environmental Science at Simmons and was a captain of the 2010 team and member of the 2009 GNAC Championship team. After Simmons she earned a Master's and a PhD from Boston University and currently serves as the Executive Director of the Boston Green Ribbon Commission. She also serves on the faculty of UMass Boston's School for the Environment and on the Boards of the Environmental League of Massachusetts, the Alliance for Business Leadership, and Children's Services of Roxbury. 

Recently, Butler told us that her time as a student-athlete at Simmons greatly shaped her work ethic and organizational leadership strengths. Balancing academics and athletics at Simmons helped her appreciate the need to be dynamic and multi-dimensional. But most importantly Butler stressed that she remains very close to her Simmons teammates, crediting her relationships with them as an anchor in her career success and overall well-being. "I was so incredibly fortunate to create lifelong friendships in Simmons Athletics that have truly shaped who I am as a woman and the leader I continue to become. When I think back to our years as student athletes at Simmons and the goals and ambitions we had for our futures, it aligns incredibly closely with what everyone is living today. I am so proud of my Sharks and so grateful for the friendship we still have today."

Director of Athletics & Recreation Erica Schuling, who coached Butler during her playing career, reflected on Butler's growth and continued impact since her time at Simmons. "It has been really special to watch Lindsey's journey from her time as a student-athlete at Simmons to the leader she is today," said Schuling. "Lindsey was someone who brought so much dedication and passion to everything she did, both on the field and in the classroom. Seeing all that she has accomplished and the impact she continues to make in the Boston community makes us incredibly proud. She will always be a Shark, and it's wonderful to see her continue to represent Simmons so well."

Also representing Simmons on the list of Boston's 150 Most Influential Bostonians was University President Lynn Wooten, who was recognized for her leadership and influence.
