Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. -- Simmons Lacrosse fell to the Norwich University Cadets, 12-8 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon at the Winsor fields. Grace Fitzpatrick led both teams with five goals to keep the Cadets undefeated at 6-0.

After a scoreless opening ten minutes, Kacey Abbriano scored unassisted at 20:03 to put the Cadets on the board. But Sharks senior Meaghan Maurice (Portland, Maine) converted on a free position shot to tie the game at one less than a minute later. The Cadets went ahead again off Fitzpatrick's first goal of the game at 17:12 before Lee Sutherland (Tuftonboro, N.H.) found an open Megan Coffey (Wilmot Flat, N.H.) who beat Cadet's goalkeeper Meghan Kennedy to tie the game again.

Lindsey Mathias put the Cadets up by one again but the Sharks responded when Rachel Wallace (Braintree, Mass.) fed Coffey for her second tally of the game. Fitzpatrick and Abbriano each beat Sharks keeper Kelly Last (West Haven, Conn.) on free position shots before Sutherland cut the Cadet's lead to one off an assist from Stephanie Oliveri (Waltham, Mass.). Fitzpatrick scored her third goal with 0:19 remaining in the half to give Norwich a two-goal lead entering the break, 6-4.

Norwich scored three unanswered goals to start the second half, one from Suzanne Whitaker and two from Danielle Del Dotto before Sharks freshman Mary Essa (Las Vegas, Nev.) tailed twice in less than a minute to bring the Sharks within three. But the Cadets answered with three goals to increase their lead to six. The Sharks scored twice in the final five minutes of play off a goal from Wallace and Oliveri but the Cadets came away with the win, 12-8.
