Fries Leads Lacrosse in 17-1 Rout over Rivier

BOSTON, Mass. – Senior attacker Kasey Fries (Bridgewater, Mass.) tallied six points, including four goals, to lead the Simmons College women's lacrosse team to a 17-1 rout over visiting Rivier University this evening in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest at Daly Field in Brighton, Mass. The Sharks improve to 5-3 overall, including 1-2 in league play, while the Raiders fall to 0-5 and 0-3. 

Simmons dominated play, outshooting its guests, 34-7 and won 70% of the draws with 14 of 20. 

Fries added a pair of ground balls and caused a turnover for the Sharks, while first year midfielder Molly Reinhold (Mystic, Conn.) racked up five points on three goals and two assists in addition to two ground balls and a draw control. Junior midfielder Ana Giarrusso (Hingham, Mass.) netted three goals and added an assist to go with a draw control and a caused turnover. Sophomore Kingsley Richards (Lexington, Mass.) and junior Missie Maiewski (Northampton, Mass.) each scored a pair of goals to give Simmons five players with multiple goals. Junior midfielder Mallory Cottam (Hope, R.I.) owned the draw with seven draw controls and added a goal, two caused turnovers and a pair of ground balls. First year Cat Cross (Beverly, Mass.) earned the victory for the Sharks with a save in the first 30 minutes of play, before yielding to senior Chyenne Yeager (Indiana, Pa.) for a pair of saves in the second half. 

Senior midfielder Lauren Goodspeed (Merrimack, N.H.) netted the goal for Rivier to go with a game-high four ground balls and a caused turnover. Sophomore defender Alyssa Ciszek (Tyngsboro, Mass.) also came up with four ground balls in addition to a draw control and a caused turnover. Junior goalie Courtney Laperriere (Keene, N.H.) stopped eight shots for the Raiders. 

The Simmons offense scored 17 unanswered goals, before Rivier got on the board with 3:39 left to play in the match. The Sharks scored five times in the opening 10 minutes of play, including two markers from Giarrusso. Simmons scored the final six goals of the half, including a pair from Fries, before the Sharks took an 11-0 lead into the intermission. 

Simmons struck for the first six goals of the second half as well with two coming from Richards. 

Goodspeed scored for the Raiders, while owning a player advantage on the field. 

The Sharks return to action on Saturday, March 31 when they host Albertus Magnus College in league play at 11:00 a.m. on Daly Field, while Rivier heads to Northfield, Vt. to take on Norwich University on March 30 at 1:00 p.m.
